The Midnight Visitor

The clock struck midnight, and the world froze. The moment they were waiting for was finally here. Was the house really haunted, or was it all just stories? James gave Sarah a glance, and then they both started to look around for any activity, but there was none. There was a deafening silence, and all that could be heard was the loud chirping of the crickets.

They both waited for half an hour and decided that the house wasn't haunted after all. James asked Sarah if she wanted to wait longer or go to sleep. Sarah agreed, and they both started ascending the wooden stairs, which creaked at every step they took. James opened the bedroom door, and they both entered one after the other.

The room was unusually cold, and they both noticed it instantly. The next thing they observed was how clean the room was, as if someone was already living there. They changed their clothes, and after giving each other a disappointed glance, went to sleep.

"Help!" "Help!" The screams of a woman made them jump out of bed. The noise was coming from the hall, and James rushed toward it without thinking twice.

"Wait, James!" Sarah screamed, but James didn't listen. Sarah followed him as quickly as she could. They both reached the hall, but there was no one, and the screams had stopped.

"We were right," said James. "There is something evil going on in this house."

He turned around to look at Sarah, but instead of her, he saw a woman wearing white, her long hair covering her face. James's eyes widened, and he lost his breath for a moment.

"Who... who are you?" James said in a shaky voice.

"Sarah," whispered the woman.

James' heart sank, and he lost his voice altogether.

He wanted to run, but his feet were paralyzed. The women started coming towards him, which made him collapse on the floor. Watching this, the women started laughing. "What have I done?" thought James and went unconscious.

"James, James," he heard the voice of Sarah and woke up. "What? What?" he mumbled in a frenzy.

"Relax, you had a bad dream," said Sarah.

"No, no, no, it was too real to be a dream, Sarah."

"Calm down, James. I've been awake all this time and felt nothing. The house is not haunted, and I think we should leave tomorrow morning."

James was still shaking when he agreed with Sarah, and they both decided to leave the house the next day.

"Let me bring you some water," said Sarah and left the room.

As soon as she left the room, the temperature dropped, and the chirping of the crickets became louder. James noticed all of this and made up his mind to leave the house as soon as Sarah came back.

It had been half an hour since Sarah left. "What is she doing?" thought James. He wanted to go out and look for her but was too afraid, and with time, his throat became more and more dry.

After an hour, James decided he could not take it anymore and went out to look for Sarah.

He went out and headed toward the kitchen. He looked around, but Sarah was nowhere to be found.

"Sarah? Sarah?" he started shouting.

"James, help me, James!" came an instant reply. The voice was coming from the bedroom.

James rushed toward the bedroom. He kicked open the door, and what he saw blew his mind. It was her again—the woman in white.

"Who are you? And where is Sarah?" he demanded.

The woman started laughing and whispered, "Come to me, James. I'm your Sarah."
